5th Edition 2019-2020

Bjelle Roberts, President of the fifth EHP

“2020 was a year marked by world-shifting events affecting the entire globe. Notably, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a tremendous social and economic impact on citizens’ lives and presented an unprecedented challenge to global public health.

Collaboration between EU Member States has proven to be more valuable than ever, underlining the importance of connectivity and solidarity. The pandemic is highlighting the necessity for sustainable health systems, the value of prevention and the need for enhancement on the field of digital health. The young generation is playing a vital part in leading this transformation to ensure we learn from the COVID-19 crisis and advance, not just repair, our health systems.

Over 2020, the 5th edition of the European Health Parliament has entered into dialogue with high-level representatives from European institutions and other key stakeholders to ensure a more resilient Europe of the future. Members addressed pressing topics such as tackling cancer, interconnected care, sustainable and healthy lifestyles, mental health and a healthy workforce and positioning Europe as a health innovation hub.

Now, more than ever, it is essential we work together to rebuild a better future for EU citizens, with health at its basis, ensuring optimal protection of the population and striving for economic prosperity. Youth is key in driving these transformations, so I recommend engaging with us to create long-term sustainable strategies to address the current and future challenges in public health”
